Cards, cards, cards… Pieces of cardboard, or small works of art?

We’ve been dealing with graphic design for over a decade, but as a matter of fact, this is the first time we’ve taken up the challenge of designing a deck of cards. As it happens with the first project of this kind – we had many sleepless nights, we dug the entire internet looking for answers to tormenting dilemmas, there were also disputes and heated discussions, the fruit of which is the Enchanted Gems: Emerald & Ruby decks. The idea that accompanied us from drawing of the first sketches was to create a graphically complete work. Work that will bring you as much pleasure as possible while in your hands.

Precision and finesse

Our deck of cards is unique in every way. The reverse of the cards is a subtle combination of rich ornamentation with a finesse that takes care of each detail. Not a single line is random here – everything has been carefully thought out and made with the greatest precision.

We designed the reverse of the cards in two color variants – phenomenal ruby and delightful emerald, both with sophisticated ornaments.

The decks also differ from each other with the backgrounds of the obverses – in the case of the ruby deck, the obverse has a black background, and the emerald one –  is white, which perfectly harmonizes with the reverses, emphasizing their uniqueness.

Magic of details

Each of the figures was created from scratch. A keen observer will notice that the elements of the outfits of individual characters have been blended with details typical of a given card color, e.g. the queen’s earrings, the king’s crown, or the jack’s outfit.

Final touch

The limited set consisting of two decks is available in an elegant richly decorated box.

The exclusive version of the collective box is additionally packed in an openwork dust jacket, under which you will find a mysterious note…

For the Enchanted gems: Emerald & Ruby set, we have also designed small gifts in the form of bookmarks and stickers with motifs taken from our decks.

The limited Exclusive Enchanted Gems Box contains one more unique gift: an artbook with original illustrations to complement our work.

The design is absolutely unique. Each card of our deck has been created completely from scratch, starting with simple ink sketches on paper, through the development of a digital version, and ending with the final product. Each symbol and detail of the graphics is carefully thought out and developed with attention to the smallest details. Particular attention is drawn to the phenomenal, extremely detailed patterns on the reverse of the cards and packages, based on our unique ornaments and geometric patterns.

We have browsed many local manufacturers, and finally chosen Cartamundi – Poland. As a team, we pay great attention to details, so we’ve decided to handle the distribution personally (with help of various postal services of course) to make sure each package will be just right.

This is our first edition of playing cards, but we’re creating it with full commitment and faith in success. The idea and design were born out of passion, and the illustrations themselves are the result of many years of developing original design style.
